The highlight of this week was coming across an emergency response team practicing cold water rescues out at the edge of the ice. It’s dangerous along the edge of the ice pack so I didn’t get very close but I was able to take pictures from a distance.

Sunday, February 13th, 2022 – It was ridiculously cold when this picture was taken near beach one, but they had swimmers in the water busting through the ice. The air temperature was around -17.0 at 10 AM.
Sunday, February 13th, 2022 – I snapped this picture while walking out on the ice near beach 2 on my way home. You can see the ice berms caused by wave action and repeated freeze-thaw cycles. The ice feels plenty safe when it is this cold.
Monday, February 14th, 2022 – Walking back from beach one along snowmobile trails on the ice. This picture taken out from shore near Beach 2 looking west.
Tuesday, February 15th, 2022 – Despite being well below freezing, there is open water caused by a storm sewer egress near 57 street.
Wednesday, February 16th, 2022 – Threatening clouds looking towards the north while walking down Beach 6,
Thursday, February 17, 2022 – A lakefront cottage just east of 18th street with some damage to the roof.
Friday, February, 18th – Our dog Maize enjoying the sunshine. It was -5C outside, but plenty warm in our unheated south-facing sunroom.
Friday, February 28th, 2022 – Our thermostat shows the sunroom temperature at 28C just from the sun. You can definitely feel that the sun getting warmer every day.
