I was working on the Civic Holiday (August 5th) so I headed down for my usual noon walk down the beach thinking it was a regular work day. Big mistake. Not a parking spot to be had. I got frustrated and decided to walk the Blueberry Trails instead – definitely a better choice on a long weekend!

Monday August 5th, 2019 – Entering the Blueberry trail
Monday August 5th, 2019 – about 30 minutes into the Blueberry trail just before the hilly parts on the backside.
Tuesday, August 6th, 2019 – The beach was deserted on Tuesday – a little rain always helps! It’s nice to see the crowds but also nice to see them go.

On Friday August 9th, Michelle and I were running some errands and planning a trip to Barrie. On a whim, we decided that Barrie was too far, and we should check out a rooftop patio at the main beach instead. Turned out to be a good call. A steady warm west wind resulted in a mini-storm surge and Beach drive was flooded. You can see where the town anticipated the problem and tried to create sand berms, but the water was too high and flooded the main road.  It looks pretty, and made for an interesting day, but I suspect the damage and expense to clean up will be enormous.

Friday, August 9th, 2019 – Taken from our rooftop vantage point at the Dard – water washing across the main road at Wasaga Beach due to record high water levels on the great lakes.
Friday, August 9th, 2019 – Michelle holding onto her drink so it doesn’t blow away
Friday, August 9th, 2019 – If you look closely we have “whitecaps” on Beach Drive
Friday, August 9th, 2019 – The berms created in anticipation of high water levels unable to protect the road way.
