It’s nice to see a more typical winter with overnight lows in the -20°C range. I find the dead of winter is when I get the most interesting pictures walking down the beach.
Sunday, January 5th, 2025 – There are many beautiful homes along Shore Lane near beach area 3. This time of year, blowing snow (and sand) are hazards.
Sunday, January 5th, 2025 – Walking down the beach was brutal, mostly because of the wind. The temperature was reasonably mild at -5°C, but the wind made all the difference. It was an easy surface to walk on, so I made it to beach one and back.
Monday, January 6th, 2025 – A perfect winter day. Heading east during my daily walk in the vicinity of Beach Area 5.
Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 – The winds were fierce on this day, heading west towards Beach area 5.
Tuesday, January 7th, 2025 – the sky tells you all you need to know looking east. We’re experiencing steady snow squalls with more snow on the way. We have a foot of snow on the ground at home, but the beach is swept clean due to the strong winds.
Wednesday, January 8th. This is the entrance to Beach Area 5, heading east from Shore Lane. I finished my walk, but today was difficult because, unlike the roads, the trails across the provincial park are not plowed.
Thursday, January 9th, 2025 – The snowbanks are beginning to pile up along Shore Lane. This picture was taken near waterfront properties at Beach Area 3.
Thursday, January 9th, 2025 – The sun was out during my second walk of the day, late afternoon, near Beach Area 5. Despite the wind and blowing snow it was a very pleasant walk.
Friday, January 10th, 2025 – I walked out on the ice to take this picture, and for the first time this winter, I enjoyed walking a few kilometers on the ice. The Bay was frozen for as far as I could see, but I never venture beyond the first set of ice berms in the distance.
Saturday, January 11th, 2025 – It was well below freezing walking down the beach this AM, but for some reason the snowmobile trails were slushy. You get more exercise walking through a few inches of snow and slush than a hard-frozen surface. I much prefer days that are -12°C rather than -2°C. 🙂
