This is the week that we lost all of our leaves. The maples in our front yard are gorgeous this time of year. I also learned why birds stand on one leg! (read on for an explanation)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday, November 7th, 2021 – It’s that time of year where the leaves start to fall. We’re in a race again the rain and snow. Thankfully we’ve had an awesome week to pick up leaves. They are falling at a rate of about 20 bags per day!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Sunday, November 7th, 2021 – This was the strangest thing. This bird insisted on hopping around on one leg – so much so, that I thought it had lost a leg. I mentioned this to people I passed on the beach and they shouted a few minutes later that the bird had finally lowered its second leg. So after a little bit of “googling” apparently this is common. Apparently birds frequently stand on one leg in cold climates to conserve heat – source here – https:\/\/www.earthrangers.com\/why-do-birds-stand-on-one-leg\/#:~:text=The%20most%20common%20reason%2C%20especially,cold%20when%20they%27re%20exposed<\/a>. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Monday, November 8th. 2021 – The sun is now setting around 5:00 PM. We’re back on standard time as opposed to daylight savings time. This picture taken during an evening walk near Beach 6 at 50th street as the sun sets.

Wednesday, November 10th, 2021 – I took another 20 bags off the ground today. A perfect day for working outside. I wish the leaves would fall faster! <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday, November 10th, 2021 – there are new signs along the Shore Lane trail. Apparently we are now part of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail – the trail is a little sketchy from Wasaga Beach and points east, but to the west of us is looks like an awesome summer hike! Thursday, November 11th, 2021 – A strong south wind today pushed the water far off-shore. Taken near 16th street @ Beach 3.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Friday, November 13th, 2021 – As of Friday, we’re at a “crazy” 111 mulched bags of leaves. Even though not all of the leaves have been picked up, we’re declaring things “done” – The forecast is for rain and snow and wet leaves are difficult to pick up. We’re realizing that we probably need a better solution next year. This is getting to be a lot of work.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
