For those not aware, February 19th was Family day in Ontario. It was great to see people taking the long weekend to heart. A family towing a sled with kids across the beach. Very cool. I remember my Dad doing the same, taking us out behind his snow machine in Sudbury / Falconbridge. I made this picture my feature image for the month.
Sunday, February 18th – Good to see people taking advantage of the Family Day holiday in Ontario
Sunday, February 18th, 2018 – This picture doesn’t capture what was happening here. An awesome picture of a friendly guy with a modified dirt bike and “mini snow-belt” linked to the back wheel. Obviously a custom-built bike for winter.
Tuesday, February 20th, 2018 – Taken near Shore Lane and 17th street looking out across Georgian Bay. The snow is melting off a sand dune in the foreground.
Tuesday, February 20th, 2018 – Walking west on Shore Lane. What you’re seeing is fog across the road caused by the ice and snow meeting warm air. Record temperatures today (up to 16 C) and we’re losing a lot of snow.
Wednesday, February 21st, 2018 – walking east on the boardwalk at Beach 2 – note that what was snow yesterday is a giant puddle on the sand a few inches deep. There is enough wind that there are waves even on the puddle!
Wednesday, February 21st, 2018 – walking west across rapidly melting ice and slush mid-afternoon. The ice is illuminated by the sun just above the top of this picture.
Wednesday, February 21st, 2018 – The playground near the water tower at Wasaga Sands has turned into a lake! This shows how quickly the snow is melting. Somebody was obviously seeing what their truck would do on the far bank. I trust they will come and fix the grass in the spring? Possibly the same person that saw fit to crush our shrubs with their snowmobiles over Christmas
Thursday, February 22nd, 2018 – Hard to get excited when the ice looks like this – looking north toward Christian Island in the far distance visible on the horizon. Enjoying the warm temperatures mid-winter.
Friday, February 23rd, 2018 – Walking along the dwindling snow trails just west of 13th street heading east along the beach. You can see the ice berms to the left and frozen pack ice further out to the north with open-water far beyond.
Saturday, February 24th, 2018 – Walking down the beach was a joy today. Lots of out of town people taking advantage of the warm weather walking down the beach – this picture taken near 13th street looking W/NW toward the Bay and Blue Mountain. (there were no dogs in case you’re looking at the sign and wondering) – I heard through the grapevine that there were more people far out on the ice today tempting fate. Thankfully I didn’t see them.
