October brought some high winds this week. While great for kite surfers, high water and winds are doing damage to properties along the beach. Beach Drive ended up underwater again and covered by sand. I think that it’s inevitable that the town will need to let the beach reclaim the street.
Sunday, October 13th, 2019 – This picture taken looking west along Wasaga Beach from the far east end on a glorious Sunday. The beach one pavilion visible off in the distance.
Monday, October 14th, 2019 – Looking west at the storm sewer outlet at 17th street. Last Fall when the water was lower, this outlet was at least 20 feet from the high water level
Tuesday, October 15th, 2019 – looking east from just west of 18th street. The property with the white fence is at Shore Lane and 17th street north.
Thursday, October 17th, 2019 – High winds today causing more erosion unfortunately. Waves reaching all the way to the boardwalk in places.
Thursday, October 17th, 2019 – When the weather is extreme is the best time for kiteboarders. It was around 7C when this picture was taken. The water temperature at Wasaga Beach averages 14C in October so the water is warmer than the air.
Thursday, October 17th, 2019 – The high winds and lake levels are making a mess of beach drive again. I’ve learned that the cleanup effort required for minor events like this is enormous.
Thursday, October 17th, 2019 – Beach drive is closed because of the wind and water levels – taken from the parking lot at beach one looking northwest.
Friday, October 18th, 2019 – A summer-like day – taken looking southwest from our back yard. The pool is closed, and our emerald ash changing colors.
