Not that you need to be a physicist to walk down Wasaga beach, but apparently it helps. I actually met and talked to a physicists (OK – a retired high school Physics teacher). He clued me into what was happening with this picture. On Wednesday (August 15, 2019), I photographed a strange effect far off-shore. A boat apparently floating above the water. I’m told that this is known as a Fata Morgan mirage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fata_Morgana_(mirage) . I think that this header pic is a keeper!
Monday, August 12th, 2019 – On Friday August 9th, I posted pictures of high waves on Wasaga Beach . It looked fun at the time, but the water did some serious damage. Lots of heavy equipment on the beach for three days this week cleaning up – costly I’m sure!
Wednesday, August 14th, 2019 – Taken from ~ 1km east of beach one along the provincial parking lots. Most people don’t head this far east. The beach here is a less maintained, but this is where I would go to enjoy Wasaga Beach and avoid the crowds when the beach is busy.
Wednesday, August 14th, 2019 – The main beach is packed, but nobody around a short 1 km east of the main beach.
Thursday, August 15, 2019 – This is the Wasaga Beach equivalent of a UFO – With a telephoto lense I was able to make out the boat far off shore – With the naked eye it looked like an iceberg. I spoke to lots of people who asked what they were seeing on the Horizon (I guess I look like local by now). The answer is refraction. Apparently one now needs to be a physicist to enjoy a walk down the beach – LOL! https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/175873/earth-curvature-refraction-for-dummies
Thursday, August 15, 2019 – Walking along the river east of Beach one.
Friday, August 16th, 2019 – Michelle and I headed to Manitoulin Island on Friday – We came across a deer that appears too skinny for the season. Lots of vegetation – something is wrong I’m afraid.
Saturday, August 17, 2019 – The view from Mom & Dad’s camp on Lake Manitou – The wind turbines across the lake are new. I’m not sure, but I think we are looking at the turbine at M’Chigeeng formerly known as West Bay.
Saturday, August 17, 2019 – I spent some time playing around with camera settings to try and capture the perfect sunset on Lake Manitou.
Saturday, August 17, 2019 – As above, but wanted to capture my parents deck close to the lake.
