The highlight of the week was a visit to Manitoulin Island late in the week to see my brother Steve and sister-in-law Sharleen at their cottage on Lake Manitou. I went with my parents, and we revisited all our favorite spots on the island.

The feature photo for this post is the Alexander cottage at Shearpin Bay on the north shore of Lake Manitou.

Sunday, August 17, 2025 – Walking east towards beach one on a Saturday morning. This picture shows how the beach becomes progressively busier as you make your way towards the main beach. Nothing but seagulls when you start out!
Monday, August 18th, 2025 – Beach 5 is one of the best-kept secrets at Wasaga Beach. Most people head to Beach 1 and 2, but for privacy and scenery, I recommend Beach 5.
Tuesday, August 19, 2025 – Looking across the provincial park at Beach area 5 towards the play structure and the beach.
Wednesday, August 20, 2025 – Entering the beach just east of my regular parking spot at 18th street on my way to Beach area one. This part of the beach is known as Beach area 3.
Thursday, Aug 21, 2025 – Kite sailors at Beach area 6.
Friday, August 22, 2025 – On Friday, we headed up to Manitoulin Island. The Alexander homestead is difficult to find off Bidwell Road – especially since there is no cellular reception and Google Maps is unreliable. To get there, you need to chart your course to Shearpin bay in advance.
Friday, August 22, 2025 – The Alexander family’s dock – looking south from the north shore of Lake Manitou. Our family cottage was on the south shore, a few miles away facing north.
Friday, August 22, 2025 – Sincere thanks to Bruce, Sharleen, and Jenna for allowing me to use Jenna’s awesome bunkie.
Saturday, August 23, 2025 – Just another perfect sunset on Lake Manitou.
