The problem with relying on open source weather data is that occasionally stations are down. Rather than make up the temperatures, I’ve decided to acknowledge the gaps. I’m grateful to the volunteer operators of IWASAGA6 at Beach 4, part of the Weather Underground. I’ve been relying on them regularly for weather data close to the beach.

The cover photo for this week is a keeper taken near beach one. Kite sailors are frequently airborne as they skim the surface of the waves. In this picture taken near beach one, the board floats well above the surface of the water. Saturday May 8th was a perfect day for kite sailing with strong north winds.

Sunday, May 2nd, 2021 – a rainy evening – heading east along beach 6 near 57th street.
Monday, May 3rd, 2021 – an overcast day. Taken at the west end of beach one looking east along Beach drive.
Tuesday, May 4th, 2021 – I caught this paddleboarder in the evening off beach six far from shore. You need to be sure of yourself to paddleboard this time of year. The water is still dangerously cold.
Tuesday, May 4th, 2021 – The same picture up close. This fellow clearly doesn’t plan to end up in the water!
Wednesday, May 5th, 2021 – heading east along the boardwalk on the way to Beach one. This is my usual “turn-around point” during my daily walks.
Saturday, May 8th, 2021 – Taken looking east from near beach one – multiple kite sailors.
Saturday, May 8th, 2021 – Looking east from beach one. The shore in the background looks close, but this is near Woodland Beach. The far shore is ~ 5km away.
Saturday, May 8th, 2021 – Provincial Park employees are starting to patrol the beach once more. It is still two weeks until the Victoria Day weekend when things open up officially.
