The beach is showing signs of life the last week of April.  Mom and Dad are back from Florida, so I’m grateful that my Mom is interesting in joining me most days for my walk.  I’ll lose her when she heads off to Manitoulin later in May.

Things are getting busier with my work, but I’m able to manage my schedule and carve out 90 minutes every day for my beach walk still.

April 24th – Quiet on Beach One but more cars are driving by for a look at Georgian Bay.

On April 27th, the weather was incredibly warm.  The picture below is my mom with my nephew Darby Sissons.  The reason for the coat was not to stay warm but rather to keep from getting sunburned on the back of his neck. Definitely a great day.

I’ve been noticing daily that heavy equipment is out in full force picking up debris and raking the beach.  The picture below taken at the heart of beach one looking west.  The day before this section of the beach was full of debris.

Beach one is groomed and ready for tourists!
April 27th was unseasonably warm. I hung back and took this picture of Mom and Darby. The reason for Darby’s jacket was to avoid a sunburn.
April 27th – a tractor hard at work near the boardwalk cleaning up the mess from the winter.
April 27th – took this picture walking around our neighborhood – Wasaga Sands. Colors are amazing before sunset.

On a personal note, this week I installed these cool LED lights from WayFair.COM on our fence at home.  Manufacturer is “Classy Caps”. I’m going to wait a year before writing the product review to see if they till light up. 🙂

We need to scrape and paint our fence this year. A job I’m not looking forward to.

We installed post lights at our home on April 28th
April 29th – Not sure what to call these guys, but they sail buggies up and down the beach when it is too cold to get into the water.

April seems to be the longest month.  We get a taste of summer , and then experience high winds that are “stupid cold”.

April 16 – Sign explaining the importance of respecting the Wasaga Beach ecosystem. This vegetation is really unique.
April 16 – looking west – warm overcast day.  Note the debris on the beach.  Looks like a summer pattern.
April 18th – Looks like summer, but sadly everything is still closed.
April 19 – Family of ducks returned to the bay.
April 20th – Rather than walk down the beach I took a walk down a familiar Blueberry Trail route – trail was dry, but bush incredibly wet. Needed to cut my walk short because of rain.
April 21st was spectacular. I took these pictures around 8:00 AM in different light – earlier that I usually get on the beach.
April 21 – Lots of equipment on Shore Lane removing the sand deposited during the winter.
April 22 – Saturday morning looks pleasant but was stupid cold with a strong north wind. This picture taken looking northwest toward Collingwood.

We had crazy warm temperatures this week. My ice-walking days are done until November at the earliest I think.

The cold water and warm air creates some interesting effects including “ground level” mist / clouds along the beach.  You can see the mist in the distance in some of the pictures below.  Reminds me of Sea Fog visiting Jacky and Reg in Cape Breton.

This week included the Easter weekend!  Good Friday was April 14th and Easter Sunday was April 16th.  Incredible how we go from seeing nobody to seeing everybody – Easter Weekend was almost like summer with everyone coming north from Toronto to open cottages and hang-out.

April 9 – mild temperatures – this picture looking east in the general direction of Midland where one of my favorite former neighbors hails from.
April 10 – This is some of the ground level fog I describe above.  Warm air meets water just above freezing.  The mist is cold when you walk through it.
April 13 – A cold Thursday, but sunny and clear – Looking northeast from behind the dunes. I’ve come to appreciate the need to protect the fragile grass you see in this picture.
April 14 – Good Friday Volleyball – Amazing how whenever there is a holiday the beach comes alive with young people. So cool. I was wearing layers to stay warm and saw kids in bathing suits trying to get in the water (I recall doing the same but didn’t take a picture for fear of looking creepy)
April 14 – My Mom and I walk together when she is not in Florida or on Manitoulin Island. This was a beautiful Saturday and we found ourselves a little depressed that nothing was open at Beach One. Despite the nice weather, too early.
April 14 – Walking back from Beach one this small plane strafed the beach. I recognize the Aircraft – they fly from the Aerodome on Hwy 26. I saw the same plane twice over the winter.
