We continued to have dramatic weather swings this week with some days being seasonal and others hitting record highs. We had one of our larger snowfalls on February 17th and 18th receiving roughly a foot of snow in the two day period. Unfortunately it melted quickly by mid week as temperatures warmed up again.

The cover photo for this posting is the distinctive residential cottages at 37th street. I’ve always though this would be a cool place to live for someone who likes the beach.

Sunday, February 18th, 2024 – This was one of the more intense snowsqualls I’ve seen. We went from clear skies to very heavy snow and limited visibility in just about ten minutes as a snowsquall came across the bay during an afternoon walk near Beach 5.
Sunday, February 18th, 2024 – Entering Beach area 5 from the west end looking towards the bay. The wind was fierce and it was impossible to see the water despite being very close.
Sunday, February 18th, 2024 – I retreated from the beach to Shore Lane near 30th street as the snow was getting too deep to walk through along the beach
Monday, February 19th, 2024 – By Monday the snow was already melting. You can see from the snowmobile trails that people were taking full advantage of the fresh snow.
Tuesday, February 20th, 2024 – We had another few inches of snow overnight but thankfully the bush trail near the Recplex was packed by the time that I got there (Tuesday around noon).
Wednesday, February 21st, 2024 – This is what happens when we get two days back-to-back of 8C weather. The snow is back to wet sand again.
Thursday, February 22nd, 2024 – Thursday was sureal! It was bright and sunny two blocks to the south, but along the waterfront we had intense fog – likely due to warm air meeting the cold water in Georgian Bay.
Thursday, February 22nd, 2024 – Looking west during highly localized fog in the late afternoon.
Friday, February 23rd, 2024 – By Friday temperatues were plummeting again and we had cold north winds. The water on then beach froze solid making conditions slippery.
Saturday, February 24th, 2024 – Saturday was spectacular for a walk. It was -11C when this picture was taken, but the north winds had moderated making it more pleasant to walk on frozen sand that felt like concrete.
