It’s been a cold, wet May and June!
Finally we are getting some decent weather. The weekend of June 8th finally felt like summer.
Much of the beach is unusable because of the high water levels on Georgian Bay, but beach one and beach two are looking great – just a little smaller than prior years.
Sunday, June 2nd, 2019 – Looking west from the foot path near 13th street. This year we have no choice but to walk across the grass because. The waves are eroding the shoreline a little more every day.
Monday, June 03, 2019 – Walking down a quiet beach one on Monday evening. Heading west down the main strip.
Monday, June 03, 2019 – This picture take at the eastern end of the beach close to the Nottawasaga River outlet. Signs warn of the Piping Plover sanctuary. Beach one is visible far in the distance.
Monday, June 03, 2019 – at the far eastern edge of the beach. You can see trees damaged by ice crashing into the shore back in April. The reason for the dangerous conditions sign is strong currents at the river outlet.
Monday, June 03, 2019 – The far east end of Wasaga Beach – heading toward the water on Monday evening.
Monday, June 03, 2019 – I have the parking lot at 5th street and the boardwalk all to myself this evening.
Monday, June 03, 2019 – Michelle let me borrow her Jeep (Sally) for my daily walk (my truck is being repaired).
Friday, June 7th, 2019 – This organic material isn’t anything to worry about, but the local residents aren’t happy. In this part of the beach the mulch has nowhere to escape to. With the water being so high, waves are leaching organic material from shorelines plants back into the water. Local residents tell me that the water is still rising and that they expect it to rise higher in July. Definitely not a good year for the beach.
Friday, June 7th, 2019 – Provincial Park employees can no longer follow the beach so we are taking the same detours in order to get down the beach.
Saturday, June 8th, 2019 – awesome evening Saturday – following an older couple east of Beach one down a walkway toward the main beach. Parts of the beach fenced off because this is a nesting area for Piping Plovers, and endangered species.
Saturday, June 8th, 2019 – Baby Canada geese swimming up the Nottawasaga River – 500 meters from the river outlet to Georgian Bay.
Saturday, June 8th, 2019 – A beautiful evening – looking out over part of the beach that is not maintained east of beach one.
Saturday, June 8th, 2019 – Taking this pic from a different angle just west of 17th street. Not possible to walk along the beach between 18th street and 17th street anymore. The beach is clear to 16th street (to the right in this picture), but after that you need to retreat away from the shoreline again.
