There are new signs most of the way along Wasaga Beach warning people about the dangers of walking out on the ice berms. The berms are a regular winter feature around here as high waves cause ice to pile up in a series of ridges that run parallel to the shore.
Sunday, February 3rd, 2019 – New warning signs posted at multiple locations along the beach. This is great to see and may save someone’s life. I’ve walked across the top of ice berms a few times thinking they were safe but this makes me think twice. I hope people will stay off the ice. I’ve seen some incredibly dangerous and reckless behaviour in my three years walking down the beach. Ice that appears sold can turn to open water in an instant.
Tuesday, February 5th, 2019 – Looking west along the boardwalk from Beach One. Solid ice after yesterday’s melt.
Wednesday, February 6th, 2019 – The beach looked like the moon today. Looking west across Nottawasaga Bay.
Thursday, February 7th, 2019 – taken near 13th street looking toward Christian Island across the bay. The shore is frozen with open water in the distance.
Friday, February 8th, 2019 – Looking west mid afternoon @ Wasaga Beach. It’s been hard to walk down the beach the past few days with so much solid ice under a veneer of snow.
Friday, February 8th, 2019 – One of my favorite pictures taken near 13th street. You can see localized snow squalls in the distance across over the bay.
