We are enjoying spectacular weather for early November with daytime highs into the 20s. This week we celebrated Halloween and watched as the town began the laborious process of clearing Beach drive after two years of being closed due to high water levels.
Monday, October 31st, 2022 – A cool noon-hour walk back from Beach one to my usual departure point at 18th street. Most properties along Shore lane (to the left) now have plywood barriers up to protect from blowing sand which is usually a problem with strong winds in November. So far the weather has been unusually mild.
Monday, October 31st, 2022 – Getting ready for Halloween at our place in Wasaga Beach. The community where we live has a lot of retirees, and the houses are a little far apart, so it is not a favorite place for trick-or-treaters. We had a strobe light to simulate lightning and scary music to complete the effect.
Tuesday, November 1st, 2022 – On Tuesday late afternoon, I happened across the setup of the evening “Pumpkin Trail” event being held near the Recplex in the Oakview woods. You can read a great write-up of the event here .
Tuesday, November 1st, 2022 – Coming out of the Pumpkin Trail – the real action started after dark, of course.
Tuesday, November 2nd – Beach drive continues to be cleared. It’s amazing how much sand was over the roads with high water on the great lakes. Thankfully, the road appears to be undamaged.
Tuesday, November 2nd – Later in the evening we headed out to Boston Pizza and back home to celebrate my Dad’s 82nd birthday. If you’re wondering about the lighting, we gave Mom and Dad a laser light show “thingy” for Christmas last year – it works great 🙂
Tuesday, November 2nd, 2022 – I’m sure the neighbors in Park Place thought this was pretty strange,
Wednesday, November 3rd, 2022 – looking east along Beach one. Great to see Beach drive being cleared. The roadway is surprisingly undamaged after being under the sand for two years.
Thursday, November 3rd, 2022 – The sand from the clearing of beach drive is spread out over a distance of almost 1 km. I notice that the town is cleverly dumping sand along sections of the beach where there are no properties -presumably due to concerns about blowing sand.
Saturday, November 5th, 2022 – At least half of Beach Drive is clear again. Great to see!
