We dipped below freezing this week – rare for the end of May. Thankfully our plants were OK, but some of our neighbors had frost damage. Lots of windy days this week. The kite sailors were all over beach six.

Sunday, May 23rd, 2021 – Taken during my evening walk near 57th street west of beach six. A couple of Seadoos anchored offshore.
Sunday, May 23rd, 2021 – A kite sailor off beach six.
Sunday, May 23rd, 2021 – Turns out there were two kite sailors sharing the same kite.
Monday, May 24th, 2021 – Taken looking towards Collingwood on my way home from just west of beach 6th. Evening walk.
Tuesday, May 25th, 2021 – A hot overcast day – exiting the beach on my way back from beach one. Taken near 13th street looking south.
Wednesday, May 26th, 2021 – Beach two near 5th street – ready for summer.

This week was the lead up to the Victoria Day weekend, aka “the May 2-4”.

Victoria Day marks the unofficial start of summer.

Monday, May 17th, 2021 – Hiking from the Recplex towards Beach 6 on a Monday evening. This trail winds by the parking lot where all the COVID vaccines are being administered.
Wednesday, May 19th, 2021 – Taken just west of Beach one. Not packed, but small glimmers of a tourist season despite the lock-down?
Thursday, May 20th, 2021 – looking west from a private part of the beach west of Beach 6. There are a few large boulders along this part of the beach and many just below the surface – our own “shear pin bay”
Thursday, May 20th, 2021 –  I hope I’m not invading anyone’s privacy with this picture. I usually avoid getting too many pictures of people close up, but I thought that this family picture was a keeper!
Friday, May 21st, 2021 – The Friday before Victoria Day – looking towards Beach one.
Saturday, May 22nd, 2021 – Anti-climactic. Unfortunately, the weather was miserable on Saturday and I ended up getting soaked walking through rain and drizzle. I feel bad for people that made the trip up from Toronto.

Low 2 3 2 5 8 6 7

A perfect week for enjoying the beach – there is nothing better than cool overnight temperatures and daily highs in the teens. It’s still pretty quiet along the beach – both because it is too early in the season and because Ontario is still in lock-downs due to COVID-19.

Sunday, May 8th, 2021 – Taken near 50th street at Beach 6 in the evening looking across the bay with Collingwood in the background.
Monday, May 10th, 2021 – These rabbits are breeding like rabbits! I snapped this pictures @ 7:00 AM. They are all over our yard this year and our dog is not happy!
Monday, May 10th, 2021 – Trying to get back to my truck before the rain hits!
Tuesday, May 11th, 2021 – Today reached a high of 9C, but it was colder around noon when this picture was taken. Cold north winds. I don’t know how these kite sailors hack the temperatures.
Wednesday, May 12th, 2021 – I always walk by this stream near beach 6 just east of 50th street. This time of year you can jump over it, but it bisects the beach in the early spring when the snow is melting.
Thursday, May 13th, 2021 – Taken at 50th street in the evening. Walking along this part of the beach is exhausting. Deep sand!
Friday, May 14th, 2021 – A couple of paddle boarders taking a break off-shore
Saturday, May 15th, 2021 – Someone planted an Umbrella on what used to be Beach Drive – now reclaimed by the sand with high water levels on the Great Lakes.
