We had some beautiful summer weather this week, with daytime highs in the 30s. By the end of the week, things were cooling down nicely.

Sunday, May 24th, 2020 – This is the main pavilion at beach one at Wasaga Beach on a warm Sunday morning.  Normally the beach would be packed on US Memorial Day. Due to the beach closures and COVID-19 the main parking lot is deserted.
Monday, May 25th, 2020 – This picture taken at the 16th street beach entrance looking north towards Wasaga Beach on another warm day. You can see mist over the beach. This is common this time of year. The sand is heated by the sun, but the air is cold because of the breeze across Georgian Bay – the result is steam coming from the sand.
Monday, May 25th, 2020 – Taken near 13th street at the end of Shore Lane looking south. Out of the wind it is very warm, but the air is cold this close to the Bay. You can see mist across the sand more clearly in this picture.
Tuesday, May 26th, 2020 – Another spectacular day. This picture taken near 16th street at Wasaga Beach looking towards Collingwood across the bay.
Thursday, May 28th, 2020 – Another day in the high 20s – looking south near 13th street. The water is to my back.
Friday May 29th, 2020 – Crews are only just starting to clear the beach. Usually by this time of year the beach is already clear of winter debris. Because of the record high water levels, there is almost no beach to clear unfortunately.
Friday May 29th, 2020 – Taken from the boardwalk @ Beach 2. You see the odd person breaking the rules, but generally most people are staying away from the beach and respecting the closure.

Low 5.2 10.0 10.4 7.1 6.3 6.7 9.6

So the beach is still closed, but beach trails are open and this apparently includes the boardwalk along beach one. Lots of confusion – LOL!

Monday, May 18th, 2020 – This is a new play structure in the provincial park area west of 6th street. It’s kind of sad to see it sitting idle.
Monday, May 18th, 2020 – Someone stood up driftwood and planted it as if it were a tree near Beach one. Looking west from near the beach 2 boardwalk.
Tuesday May 19th, 2020 – Taken near 16th street looking towards the beach.
Tuesday May 19th, 2020 – This is the trail that I frequently take in the winter near 13th street.
Thursday, May 21st, 2020 – Looking east across the Beach 2 boardwalk. The beach is tiny due to high water and still full of debris from winter storms.
Thursday, May 21st, 2020 – Taken at beach one – this part of the beach has been cleaned up.  Normally this is Beach Drive, but it is covered by roughly 12-18″ of sand. The town has decided to let nature take it’s course and allow the beach to take over the roadway. Unfortunately there is no longer a Beach Drive – just a beach!
Thursday, May 21st, 2020 – Walking across the parking lot at the provincial park by beach 2. Not a person in sight. (provincial parks are open during the day)
Friday, May 22nd, 2020 – The entrance to the Beach 2 boardwalk from the west.
Friday, May 22nd, 2020 – Looking east toward beach one.

This week marked the transition to spring in my mind. Near the water it is always cold this time of year, but no jacket required as long as you’re out of the wind.

Monday May 11th, 2020 – Today was a cool day – Windy and 2 degrees (C) when I took this picture. Taken near 13th street at the east end of Shore Lane.
Wednesday, May13th, 2020 – Today was closer to 10C and much more pleasant. Walking along the sand dunes at 13th street.
Wednesday, May13th, 2020 – The beach near 13th street. The wind had been blowing from the west (hence the whitecaps) but as it shifted to the south the beach started to rapidly grow in size and the waves diminished.
Thursday, May 14th, 2020 – Taken at 13th street.
Saturday, May 16th, 2020 – Taken at 16th street.
