March and April are pretty ugly-looking months walking up and down the beach. The ice along the shore usually breaks up here in mid-April.
Sunday, March 20th, 2022 – This picture was taken at the far east end of the boardwalk, looking towards beach one in the distance. This part of the beach is not maintained as it is a nesting area for Piping Plovers.
Monday, March 21st, 2022 – Approaching 13th street on my way to beach one. The beach is a “superhighway” – it is remarkably clear of logs and debris for this time of year. Also, the water level is well down from last year.
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022 – Taken just to the west of the picture above on my way to beach one. The beach is sand, but lots of ice is still along the shore.
Friday, March 25th, 2022 – This picture was taken during an evening walk along beach 6. There is less ice and more open water at this end of the beach – likely because northwest winds push the ice to the southeast corner of the bay. The ice berms are dark because they carry a lot of sand that becomes more concentrated as the ice melts.
Saturday, March 26th, 2022 – Take at beach 2 looking west along Wasaga Beach. The ramps down from the boardwalk were re-built last year following damage from high-water.
