This week was one of the coldest we’ve experienced in the past few years. We got down to -29.6C on January 29th. I remember days in the -30s growing up in Sudbury, but they are rare around here. The bay is frozen and I managed to get down to the beach most days. I was a little distracted by our sunroom construction project.
Sunday, January 23rd, 2022 – Tough slogging down the beach today! Fresh snow makes it hard for walking. You can see the snowmobile trails out on the ice, but the snow is deep and hard to walk on.
Sunday, Jan 23rd – We have an active construction project in our back yard this week so I took time to shovel new snow from our new sunroom. The plywood floor is not yet nailed down pending a building inspection.
Monday, January 24th, 2022 – Looking west along the beach near Beach 6.
Monday, January 24th, 2022 – I really hope these guys know how to put our roof back together! the sunroom has a peaked roof that needs to meet the roofline from our house.
Tuesday, January 25th, 2022 – Snowdrifts entering the beach. I decided to walk down the street instead. You can see the packed-down snowmobile trails out on the ice, but getting to them is difficult.
Thursday, January 27th, 2022 – A lonely walk near beach six as the sun was setting. This picture taken looking east.
Friday, January 28th, 2022 – Taken from the Beach 6 provincial parking lot looking across the bay towards Collingwood and the Blue Mountains.
Saturday, January 29th, 2022 – Things are finally frozen sold enough that it is safe to walk offshore. The ice tends to form in a layer of “berms” – the ice chunks are caused by freeze/thaw cycles. Open water along the shore crashes up along shore ice and creates ice berms.
