This week, we saw some very cold temperatures, with lows dipping into the -20s around Wasaga Beach and into the -30s in my hometown of Sudbury. The wind chill was a significant factor on Monday, with strong winds for the northwest pushing the temperatures into dangerous territories.
Monday, January 20th, 2025—The winds were from the southwest on Monday, so even though the temperature was around -15C, it wasn’t too bad. The trick to enjoying the beach in the winter is to be aware of the wind direction and dress for the weather.
Monday, January 20th, 2025 – We reached -23C overnight, and not surprisingly, Nottawasaga Bay was frozen solid out beyond the ice berms. The white ice chunks that were previously floating were suddenly stationary encased in ice.
Tuesday, January 21st, 2025: During my walk on Tuesday, we had strong winds and temperatures around -15C. You can see how much snow is drifted around the sign at the entrance to the beach from 14th Street. Someone built a cool snow fort a few days before when the temperature was warm enough for the snow to stick.
Tuesday, January 21st, 2025 – A cold evening walk along a windswept area near Beach 5. The snowmobile trails were firm and easy to walk on.
Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025 – The cold persisted on Wednesday, and I took two walks down the beach. This picture taken looking west from near Beach area 5.
Thursday, January 23rd, 2025 – Snow squalls in the distance heading our way.
Friday, January 24th, 2025 – Looking across the parking lot from Beach area one with the Blue Mountains in the background.
Friday, January 24th, 2025 – Walking west along Beach Drive (Main Beach) on my way back to the parking lots at 3rd street.
Saturday, January 25th, 2025 – The town recently cleared the large the large snowbank that was making it difficult to access to beach at 16th street. You can see that sand was scraped up along with the snow that was removed by truck.
Saturday, January 25th, 2025 – A late afternoon walk down the beach along the snowmobile trails. This picture taken from the parking lot closest to the beach at the west end of Beach Area 5.
