This time of year, most days are cloudy, so it was a treat to have a clear sunny day on December 13th. The gray clouds in this post’s cover photo is typical of what you see during very cold weather. Usually, clear skies bring the coldest temperatures. Our home thermometer showed -16C in the early morning, so definitely cold enough to start getting some ice forming along the shore.
Sunday, December 11th, 2022 – After some heavy winds, I came across several damaged trees walking from the Recplex to Shore Lane drive on my way to be beach late in the afternoon.
Monday, December 12th, 2022 – Fresh snow on the ski hills at Blue Mountain across the bay.
Tuesday, December 13th, 2022 – This picture taken looking west from east of 12th street. Technically it is Fall, but today felt like a perfect Winter day in March!
Tuesday, December 13th, 2022 – We get so few sunny days this time of year that we enjoy them when they come. The sunroom on the south side of our house was up to 33 degrees C, with solar heating. On a cloudy day, the indoor temperature is the same as the outdoor temperature, right around freezing.
Wednesday, December 14th, 2022 – The ice is not thick enough to walk on yet, but hopefully, it won’t be long.
Friday, December 16th, 2022 – A very “wet” day walking down the beach on Thursday. It was slightly above freezing, and every step in the snow was into an inch of cold water. This could have been a commercial for waterproof Merrell footwear. I’ve been buying the same Moab 2 shoes for ten years, and they are awesome.
Saturday, December 17th, 2022 – Walking east toward beach 6 late in the afternoon as it gets dark. It was hard walking down the beach today because every step crunched through a layer of ice into the snow.
